Medford Frmers Market Now Accepting Govt Food Plans

Medford Farmers Market logo small

The Medford Farmers Market is the recipient of a grant from the Mass. Dept. of Agriculture (MDAR) and the Dept. of Transitional Assistance (DTA) aimed at making healthy, local foods at farmers markets more accessible to SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) recipients, including WIC and elderly customers receiving assistance. Now, more people can shop at the market and get the benefits of buying local foods. We will also start accepting credit/debit cards.

Starting on July 21, 2011, The Medford Farmers Market will have a wireless terminal set up to accept the EBT/SNAP benefits and credit/debit cards.

In addition to the SNAP benefits debited at the market, we will be giving $5 Medford Farmers Market bucks each week to supplement the purchasing power of SNAP recipients shopping at the market.

We are very excited to be able to offer this program at our local market and would greatly appreciate your assistance in getting the word out to our community members! Can you pass this message on to your house of worship? Can you post a flyer at work or a community group you belong to? Post it on your Facebook page or send a tweet? All avenues are welcome! We have flyers in multiple languages available. Let us know what you need, and we'll get it to you!

If you have any questions or suggestions on how improve the accessibility of the market, please email me at

Fruitfully yours,

Susan Fairchild, President
