Medford's Wrights Pond and Learning to Fish
Image via Wikipedia
(Medford, MA) Here in Medford we have a wonderful spring fed freshwater pond called Wright's Pond. Located on Elm St. it features some great fishing, convenient location as well as convenient paths circling the pond. Fishing is one of those relaxing endeavors that I too often don't get to enjoy but I have some wonderful memories of growing up and going fishing with family members and friends. The State of Massachusetts (http://www.mass.gov/ ) had an interesting posting on a learn to fish weekend coming up on June 4th and 5th, 2011 where adults won't need a fishing licence to enjoy & learn to fish.
From the Official State of Massachusetts website http://www.mass.gov/
Learn how to fish:
The Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) Angler Education Program offers beginner fishing classes throughout the spring and summer. Then take advantage of the FREE fishing weekend on June 4th and 5th. Everyone fishes for free - no licenses required statewide on these two days. Discover what types of fish are near you or find a public boat ramp where you can easily get your boat in and out of the water.
You'll have to keep an eye out for Wright's Ponds 2 famous snapping turtles but if you keep a keen eye you just might catch a glimpse of them. The gear can get pricey if you're not careful but a simple rod & reel and a fishing licence for those 15 years old and older can make for spring/summer/fall full of fun fishing memories. Costs for licences can be found at http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/recreation/licensing/license_fees.htm
